Fashion Unchained: Clothes Hound struts the runway at Flanders Gallery!

The Coalition to Unchain Dogs hosted the annual Fashion Unchained event. The event featured a fashion show featuring, a silent auction and local food and drink from restaurants and breweries. Coalition to Unchain dogs is a nonprofit, volunteer effort dedicated to improving the welfare of dogs, living outdoors on chains. This was a spectacular event for those who love fashion, dogs and want to enjoy a unique evening all for a worthy cause!

For the 2nd year in a row, Clothes Hound was honored to be a part of this fantastic event. We love the venue and the cause. Even more cool are the models, featuring real girls like the Raleigh Roller Derby babes!

Get Reborn! An Interview with local Jewelry Smith, Samantha Evans

With so many aspiring jewelers out there, Clothes Hound is approached by many artists and jewelry makers trying to get their start. With the competition so fierce we have found that we have to be pretty choosy in who we bring into our stores and make sure what we bring in is, truly something we love ourselves and believe in, but more importantly items that our customers will love and go go-go for!

Which is why we are so happy to be carrying Reborn Jewelry by Samantha Evans!

We took a few minutes to get to know this talented lady and learn how she got her start

Q: Who are you? Tell us about yourself and how you got into jewelry making?

A: I always knew I wanted to end up doing something with art since I was a kid. I even took art classes outside of school with a family friend that taught art in her basement. I was always proud to bring home art to my parents and when it came time to apply to college I went for an art school. It was between SCAD or ECU. ECU was more of a well rounded college with sports etc so I chose ECU and it was closer to home! In art school you take a year of basic courses and then start choosing studio classes to help you figure out which direction you want to head. I knew after metals that I wanted to go back and focus my major in that area. After college I dove right into my own company! Drew up a logo and had a graphic designer perfect it on the computer, rented a studio space and the rest is history.

Q: How did you get hooked up with Bryce and get your jewelry into CH?

A : Five years later I keep working on getting myself in more stores and shows. In doing shows I met Bryce years ago. We kept running into each other at shows and so when she opened a store she asked me to put some things in her shop and I was so excited!

A: What or who do you get your inspiration from?

B: I like to think we are all born with certain talents and this was the one God intended for me so my ideas and designs are truly in my head at all times. I am a nature lover so I think my work reflected to rustic, raw natural look of our world. I love doing custom orders because they usually lead to my next idea or I just keep making something similar to that order. One single design really leads to a million different options. You can choose a cut out like the NC state that people love to represent and I can change the size, color, texture, type of jewelry piece like a necklace, ring or earrings. The ideas are unlimited!!

Q: What are some of your favorite jewelry lines besides yours?

A: I don’t really follow other lines bc I don’t want to ever think I came up with an idea but subconsciously I saw it in a magazine or online a week before. But I really respect anyone that really hand makes jewelry. I love all the Lark books .. they show real artists work!

Q: What’s up next for Reborn?

A: My dream for Reborn is to have wholesale accounts around the country so everyone can have a piece of my heart and maybe one day a store that sells gifts, jewelry and of course art work! I would love to help all upcoming artists get a start in my unique shop! I am also really enjoying doing home shows where the ladies sip on wine and apps and buy some jewelry!

Q: What do you suggest for aspiring jewelry designers?

A: I think starting a business is the hardest things for an individual. It takes TIME! I would tell an upcoming jewelry designer to just keep going! You have to put in the time. Make a lot of work and keep advertising. Do shows, walk into stores with your work, and word of mouth! Now a days there is so much free social media to help get pictures of your work out that its a lot easier than when I started. But I also would suggest asking a million questions or even the same 10 questions to a million people. Talking to other vendors at shows, store owners, other small business owners they all have something to say and everyone will tell you something different!

Headbands of Hope 1 Year Anniversary Party!

Last week we had the extreme pleasure of attending our girl, Jessica’s, 1 year Anniversary for Headbands of Hope. This is a one-for-one business model which is similar to the way TOMS shoes works. For every adorable headband sold, Headbands for Hope donates $1 to St. Baldrick’s and a lucky little girl who is struggling with cancer gets a headband for themselves.

These headbands give a little girl and their family a small moment in their to day to smile and reflect on the hope that will get them through the strife they are currently living through.

Clothes Hound Owner, Bryce Batts, was one of the very first boutiques in the Triangle area to carry this inspirational line of adorable headbands and we have never looked back!

Our customers love the cause and the fashionable headbands that are perfect for customers of all ages.

We are so, so proud of Jessica! We continue to support her endeavors in her first year, as well as many more to come in the future. Jessica recently graduated and is going to be working on Headbands of Hope full time.

We can’t wait to see what this amazing young lady has in store for this brand when she isn’t juggling running a successful business AND maintaining a full time schedule as a student at NSCU.

Interview with Molly of Lucy and Me!

Recently we sat down with Molly Wilkins of the Lucy and Me Jewelry line and interviewed her about her start with her hand made jewelry and what’s in store for this popular line that Clothes Hound carries!

Q: Who are you? Tell us about yourself and how you got into jewelry making?

Molly Wilkins of Lucy and Me Jewelry!

A: My name is Molly Wilkins, I’m 24 years old. Born and raised in Raleigh, I’ve always loved doing crafty things and my jewelry making started my junior year of high school when I discovered “Ornamentea” which is a local bead and crafting store located in downtown Raleigh. After going back a few more times I realized I wasn’t that bad at making jewelry and it was all over for my bank account!!

Q: How did you get hooked up with Bryce and get your jewelry into CH?

A: I actually went to high school with Louise and a few months back she messaged me on Facebook about Lucy and Me. I dropped off some jewelry the next day at the Chapel Hill store and so forth!

Q: What or who do you get your inspiration from?

A: My inspirations definitely comes from the things around me. I love trying to recreate pieces that I see in magazines and on celebrities.

Q:What are some of your favorite jewelry lines besides yours?

A: Some of my favorite jewelry lines besides mine would have to be local designer Molly Anderson with MollyBeads (I use to work with her in high school and she’s a great role model to me) and also probably Lulu Frost.

Q; What’s up next for Lucy and Me?

A: Up next for Lucy and Me will definitely be more bright colors. I’m hoping to do a big bead haul in the next month so I’ll know better then!

Q: What do you suggest for aspiring jewelry designers?

A: As for advice to upcoming jewelry designers, I think I would have to say is always think outside the box and trust yourself and your designs.
